Receipt delivery

Receipt Delivery

As outlined in the core concepts, check-in involves collecting payment and contact information. As discussed in the Customer Information section, delivering receipts is crucial and may be legally required.

This section explores how to deliver receipts to customers. You can manage receipt delivery independently or use AiFi's solutions.

Receipt delivery methods

You can deliver receipts in three ways:

  • Webpage: Recommended for high-throughput environments.
  • Mobile app: Suitable for app-based interactions.
  • Email or SMS: Recommended for grocery and convenience stores; delivers a link to the receipt.

These methods aren't exclusive. You can use the methods that suit different store setups. Each method has specific challenges and limitations.

Delivery via Dedicated Webpage

The most seamless method is to let customers retrieve their receipt from a webpage without collecting any information at the store.

To use webpage delivery, you need the following information:

  • Non-secret information about the customer's credit card: last four digits and expiration date.
  • The date of the customer's store visit.

Implementation options

AiFi provides a web receipt portal that can be customized to match the retailer branding where retailers can retrieve their information.

For more information on how to use this option, please contact your account manager.

Fraud protection vs. frictionless experience

Collecting more information, like phone or email verification, increases fraud protection but also adds friction to the store entry process.

Mobile app delivery

This method is straightforward and offers flexibility in receipt layout and notification options. It requires a customer app, which might not be suitable for all retailers.

Delivery via Email or SMS

Delivering receipts via email or SMS requires collecting contact information, which varies by your authentication method and check-in process. The three examples below are the most common methods of collecting contact information:

  1. In the mobile app: For app-based integrations.
  2. At the store entrance: Before entry.
  3. Inside the store: At designated areas.

Receipt implementation

You also need to decide on the actual receipt implementation. You can use the following methods:

  • (Recommended): Link to an external, interactive receipt, such as AiFi’s Web Receipt.
  • Simplest: Link to an external, non-interactive receipt, such as a PDF file containing the receipt
  • Plaintext or HTML-based contents.
SMS Receipts

AiFi strongly recommends including a link to the receipt in SMS communications for better user experience, rather than sending detailed text content.

Email vs. Phone Number

AiFi suggests using email for app-based receipts and SMS for receipts collected via in-store interactions, as entering a phone number is quicker than typing a lengthy email.
